There are a two main reasons why improving your ability to employ or deliver service to disabled people should be an essential part of your work.
It is every employer and service providers legal obligation to be aware of, and take action on, their responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act.
It's important to remember that the DDA is an anticipatory piece of legislation and changes need to be put in place before they are needed. Some can only be made upon request but systems and understanding still need to be in place.
The amount of disabled people taking action over discriminatory practice is increasing, and many of these attract considerable media attention.
